Higher education in New York State as well as the rest of the country has been a stumbling point when global competition is concerned. The high debt associated with higher degrees hamper our younger generation to excel in the marketplace and begin raising a family.
The concept of free college education through the state university system has it's merits. The institutions that are responsible for the betterment of our next decision makers, need to emulate those countries that provide state funded education while requiring the high standard necessary to compete.
I think it will still take some time before this country matures enough to seriously consider free higher education. I don't see the public outcry or political will to expect significant changes any time soon.
While the HESC and the TAP programs help with the current system, it's not enough to level the field. |
